Absecon Man Gets Decades For Sexually Assaulting Juveniles: Prosecutor A 45-year-old Absecon man will be spending several decades in prison after previously being convicted of sexually assaulting juveniles, authorities announced Wednesday, June 24. Alfonso Chavez was sentenced to 57 years in prison after a jury convicted him in January of multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of children, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said. Chavez was originally arrested in January 2024 and has been detained at the Atlantic County Justice Facility ever since, authorities said.

At 5:43 p.m., Neptune police responded to a shooting at Asbury Park Circle and Route 35 South, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said. While police were investigating,  a woman arrived at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound, Santiago said.
