A 39-year-old Queens, NY woman has been charged in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a 38-year-old pedestrian on Long Island on New Year's, authorities said.
Veronica Marmol, of College Point, was behind the wheel of a 2018 Jeep Wrangler heading east when she struck the man on Old Country Road near Floral Avenue in Plainview, just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, Nassau County police said.
Marmol did not stop and continued heading east, leaving the victim seriously injured at the scene, according to police. A Nassau County Police medic pronounced the man dead on site.

A Queens, NY woman was arrested in Bergen County after police found she was driving a stolen van and had fake IDs, forgery tools, and amphetamines, authorities said.
Vanessa C. Lake, 27, was stopped at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Nov. 23, for speeding on Broad Avenue in Englewood, according to Detective Lt. Fred Pulice. Officers ran a check on the vehicle's registration and found that the white 2021 GMC van had been reported stolen in North Bergen.
