A suspended Pennsylvania mechanic faked safety inspections for hundreds of commercial vehicles, took in nearly $300,000, and risked lives by certifying trucks that should’ve been off the road, authorities said.
Fares Farhat, 50, of Halifax, was arrested Sunday, Aug. 4 and charged with 81 felonies including dealing in the proceeds of unlawful activities, forgery, and corrupt organizations, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.

'Baltimore County Not Sanctuary Jurisdiction' Exec Says After Being Named By DOJ
The US Department of Justice has officially named just one Maryland city in its newly released list of “sanctuary jurisdictions” — and it's joined only by Washington, DC, as the only two locations in the DMV region.
The list, published Tuesday, Aug. 5, by the DOJ, includes states, cities, and counties the federal government says have “policies, laws, or regulations that impede enforcement of federal immigration laws.”
