Three Arrested After Stabbing At Atlantic City Resort: Police
Two Newark residents and a Maryland man were arrested and charged after a man was stabbed and a woman assaulted at a resort in Atlantic City, authorities announced Wednesday, April 15.
At 10:37 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, officers responded to the Showboat Resort and and located a 38-year-old Severn, Maryland woman who had been assaulted, Atlantic City police said. She was transferred to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The stabbing victim, Quheem Whitehead, a 38-year-old Newark resident, later arrived at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A Newark woman was killed after she was struck by a vehicle on Saturday, Oct .4, authorities said.
At 3 a.m., Vanessa Bunn exited her residence at 472 Washington Ave. along with another person and was attempting to cross the street, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. One vehicle stopped and allowed her to cross, but another vehicle, traveling northbound on Washington Avenue, veered around the stopped vehicle and struck her.

A New Jersey native and father accused of repeatedly raping a child in Palmer Township remains on Pennsylvania State Police’s Top 10 Most Wanted list, authorities announced on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Benicio Antoin Benifield, 39, of Newark, is charged with multiple felonies including aggravated indecent assault of a child, rape by threat of forcible compulsion, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person under 16, incest, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and other related offenses, according to the Palmer Township Police Department.

A New Jersey mother and grandmother died Monday, Sept. 8, after 17 days in the hospital following a sudden brain aneurysm, her loved ones said. She was 39 years old.
A native of Brazil, Poliana Pires Coelho lived in Newark's Ironbound section and was a devoted single mother to daughters Ana Luisa, 21, Ana Beatriz, 9, and Ana Liz, 3, according to a GoFundMe launched by Richard Arruda in the wake of her death.
She was also a grandmother to Matthew, 11 months, and Luca, 3. Her children will now be raised by her parents, Eder and Iraides, the campaign says.

A crash between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car killed two people on State Route 17 in Nichols, New York, state police announced on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Frank J. Dempaire, 45, of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Elize Carlos, 45, of Newark, New Jersey, were identified as the victims, according to New York State Police.
The crash happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, when both vehicles were traveling east on State Route 17 and the tractor trailer rear-ended the passenger car, troopers said. Dempaire and Carlos, who were inside the car, died at the scene.
