A veteran prosecutor known for trying high-profile murder cases has been tapped to lead the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced on Saturday, Aug. 2.
Wayne Mello, who has served as Hudson County’s First Assistant Prosecutor since 2016, officially assumed the role of Acting Prosecutor on Thursday, July 31, according to Platkin.

A 26-year-old Randolph woman has been missing for almost two weeks, authorities announced Thursday, July 24.
Destiny Erts was last seen at 11:30 a.m. at the Dover Public Library on Friday, July 11, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Dover Police Department Chief Jonathan Delaney, and Human Services Police Chief Brian Lee said.

A 43-year-old Florham Park woman was arrested and charged with murder in the death of her 3-year-old daughter, authorities announced Tuesday, July 22.
On Sunday, July 6, Florham Park police responded to a home Woods End Road and found Jeanine Glass unresponsive on the first floor of the residence with wet clothes, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, and Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando said.

Woman Drowns At Denville Beach: Prosecutor
A 33-year-old woman drowned at a New Jersey beach on Sunday, July 13, authorities said.
At 5:50 p.m., first responders responded to Cedar Lake Beach in Denville after the woman was observed unresponsive by other swimmers, who called 9-1-1, a spokesperson for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.
The woman, who was not identified, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and pronounced dead, authorities said. No foul play is suspected, authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation, authorities said.
