Reza Zavvar came to America as a 12-year-old boy. Now, at 52, he sits in a Texas detention center — facing deportation from the only home he’s ever known.
Reza Zavvar, a longtime Maryland resident and green card holder, was detained by ICE on June 28 while walking his dog Duke in Gaithersburg, according to a letter written by his sister, Maryam.
“It started like any other morning for Reza, with a refreshing walk alongside his beloved dog, Duke,” she wrote. “As Duke sniffed around for just the right spot, an unmarked vehicle suddenly pulled up.

Embattled Atlantic City Police Officer Dies, 30
Warren Young, a police officer in Atlantic City, died on Wednesday, July 16, according to the Atlantic City PBA Local #24. He was 30 years old.
The PBA lauded Young in a fundraising appeal, saying he served his community with "courage and compassion." Young leaves behind three children, Warren IV, 6, Bowe, 2 and Hunter, 1.
"His loss has left an unimaginable void in their lives and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him," PBA President Jules Schwenger said.
Last December, Young was arrested on multiple charges of domestic abuse involving his wife, Atlantic City police said.

Two men already facing murder and attempted murder charges are now accused of attacking their defense attorneys in separate incidents inside Orange County Court, prosecutors said.
Arthur Thomas, age 47, and Donnie Smith, age 33, were each arraigned on Wednesday, June 11, on new indictments charging them with second-degree attempted assault, a felony. Blanchard Glaudin, 25, homeless, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder on Thursday, Feb. 27, for the Feb. 18, stabbing death of Sandra Wilson, said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, II.

Area Man Who Allegedly Shot, Killed Another, Calls To Report Crime, Police Say
A 21-year-old area man was found shot to death after the alleged shooter called the police to report the crime.
The shooting took place around 1209 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, when the City of Poughkeepsie Police received a 911 call from a person reporting he had shot and killed the victim, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark.
Responding officers found the person shot, a 21-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Clark said.
