Torrential downpours and flash flooding triggered widespread power outages and traffic disruptions across New Jersey on Thursday, July 31.
As of 9 p.m., more than 10,000 residents were without power.

883 outages in Somerset County, mostly in North Plainfield

Bridgeton Man Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On AC Expressway: Njsp
A 24-year-old Bridgeton man was killed in a wrong-way crash on the Atlantic City Expressway on Saturday, July 5, authorities said.
At 4:27 a.m., police responded to a report of a wrong way driver on the Expressway, Charles Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.
While en route, they found the vehicle, a silver Infinity, had crashed into a concrete barrier and toll reader support structure in Pleasantville, Marchan said.
David Salas, a passenger, was pronounced dead while the driver, a 23-year-old Bridgeton resident sustained minor injuries, Marchan said.

Oxon Hill Man Hurt After Car Strikes Toll Barrier In New Jersey: Police
A 23-year-old Maryland man was injured after his car struck a toll barrier on the Atlantic City Expressway on Saturday, April 19, authorities said.
At 2:44 a.m., troopers responded to Hamilton Township after a Kia Sportage, traveling westbound, struck the attenuator at the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza, then impacted the concrete curb and concrete barrier, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State police said.
The driver, a resident of Oxon Hill, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said.
The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.

Funeral services for Ashley Pitts, who died in a car crash on June 16, are on Friday, June 28, according to Boyd Funeral Services.
Calling hours are from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Baptist Temple Church, 1029 South Fourth St. in Camden.

Driver, 37, Ejected, Killed In Camden County Crash
A 37-year-old driver from Camden was ejected from her car and killed after sideswiping a disabled car, authorities said.
Troopers responded to the crash on Saturday, June 15 at about 10:30 p.m. on the Atlantic City Expressway west in Winslow Township, New Jersey State Police said.
Based on a preliminary investigation, a Nissan SUV was traveling westbound on the Atlantic City Expressway. In the area of milepost 38.3, the Nissan sideswiped a disabled Honda passenger vehicle parked on the right shoulder.
The Nissan then overturned, and the driver was ejected, State Police said.

41-Year-Old Driver Dead In Fiery AC Expressway Crash
A 41-year-old driver died in a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway Friday, March 1, State Police said.
Matthew T. Martin, of Audubon, was heading east in Winslow Township when he ran off the road to the left and struck a tree in the center median around 6:45 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said.

Camden Man, 22, Killed In Atlantic City Expressway Crash After Striking Multiple Trees
A 22-year-old man from Camden was killed in a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway, authorities said.
Hamza Muhammad lost control of his Dodge SUV, ran off the roadway left, struck the guardrail, continued down an embankment, and overturned before colliding with multiple trees at about 9:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said.
The crash occurred westbound near milepost 20.5 in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County.
The crash remains under investigation and there was no additional information available.

Truck Takes Down Power Lines, Closes Route 40 In South Jersey
A truck that had unloaded a dumpster took down power lines, closing Route 40 in Atlantic City, authorities said.
On Monday, Nov, 27, at about 9:30 a.m., police responded to wires across the roadway and two broken electrical poles.
A City of Atlantic City employee was operating a roll-off truck and had offloaded a dumpster, police said.
"The driver failed to properly put down the boom before driving off," they said.
The boom caught the electrical wires, snapped the poles and pulled the wires across the roadway.
There were no injuries reported.

Police ID Passenger Killed When Car Strikes Tree Along Atlantic City Expressway
New Jersey State Police have identified a 19-year-old passenger killed in a single-car crash along the Atlantic City Expressway in Hamilton.
Jazaya Lee, of Vineland, died of her injuries after the crash at 10:26 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9 at milepost 23.4, State Police said.
The driver, Andres Hernandez-Creamadel, 19, of Atlantic City, also was killed in the crash. He was driving east when he went off the road to the right and struck a tree, police said.
Driver Rescued From Marsh After Fleeing Atlantic City Expressway Crash: State Police
A Westchester County, NY, man was arrested after he allegedly fled a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway, authorities said.
Jerome Reed, 34, of Peekskill, was rescued about five hours after the crash from a nearby marsh and charged with eluding, New Jersey State Police said.
Troopers were called to the single-vehicle crash at 1:08 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, Sgt. Philip Curry, a State Police spokesman, said. The crash occurred in the westbound E-ZPass lanes of the Pleasantville Toll Plaza, he said.
