Trumbull Coffee Roasters Brew Up Success One Bean At A Time TRUMBULL, Conn. — As Ed Freedman sees it, life’s too short to drink bad coffee. “And there’s too much bad coffee out there,” said the Fairfield resident. That’s why Freedman waved goodbye to a profitable career in IT sales to start Shearwater Coffee Roasters, Fairfield County’s only certified organic coffee-roasting business. Gearing up to celebrate its third birthday in September, the shop, based in a Trumbull corporate park, is fast becoming the go-to boutique bean house for a slew of local restaurants and coffee shops. Fairfield County Acupuncturists Explain 'Giant Hickies' On Michael Phelps FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — No, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps has not been set upon by oversized leaches. Those bruise-like circles clearly visible on the American star’s back and shoulders are from an ancient Chinese practice called cupping that is thought to relieve sore and tired muscles and give athletes one more boost on the competition. “It’s kind of like a giant hickey,” said Laura Shahinian Kara, an acupuncturist who uses the centuries-old therapy at her Bethel and Westport locations. “Suddenly, it’s becoming this new thing. Everybody’s calling about it.” Used for everything from an…

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Watch a few minutes of rehearsals for the new production of “Oliver!” taking the stage at the Fairfield Theatre Company later this month and you’ll know you’re in for a very different take on the venerable Dickens tale. The Artful Dodger, that scruffy-but-savvy boy pickpocket, is played by a teenage girl, Jen Beveridge of Watertown. “It’s very …
