Lightfoot Runners Postpone Saturday Race NORWALK, Conn. — The Lightfoot Running Club has postponed for one week a 7-mile race that had been scheduled to start Saturday at 8 a.m. at Brien McMahon High School. The brutal heat wave that has gripped Connecticut this week forced the delay, race director Don Capone said. Forecasts call for temperatures in the high 90s on Saturday. Capone said runners who have already registered but cannot make the race next Saturday will be issued a refund. Norwalk Senior Legion Team Advances in States NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk's American Legion Senior team advanced to the double-elimination round of the state tournament Wednesday with a 7-4 victory over Waterford. The win sets up a game Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Niantic at Muzzy Field in Bristol. Leon Fleming got the victory with relief help from Patrick Donohue. Kevin Daniele belted a two-run homer and Spencer Jacoby added two triples. Norwalk finished in second place in Zone 4 with a 20-7 record, trailing only Greenwich (23-4). Cannons Stop Skid in Senior League NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The New Canaan Cannons baseball team in the Fairfield County Men's Senior Baseball League stopped a five-game losing streak Sunday with a 5-1 victory over the Westport Cardinals. The Cannons (5-9) got a strong pitching effort from pitcher Dave Dunkelberger, who got relief help from Pat Chieffalo. Steve Benko sparkled at short, while second baseman Brian Valentine and catcher Bryan Vickers also made nice defensive plays. Valentine ripped four hits, while Dave Prutting slammed a two-run double. Foley Field in Naugatuck. Edgewood advances to play for the state championship against the Section 2 champion beginning Saturday in Willimantic. Edgewood, which defeated Westport 11-10 during pool play, took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Wednesday's game. The trio leaped from the Bridge at Hickory Bluff into the cooling waters of Wilson cove — then did it again, and again. New Canaan, Darien Riders Team Up for Challenge A team of riders from New Canaan and Darien will be among the 1,000 cyclists riding in the seventh annual Connecticut Challenge on July 30.  The ride funds cancer survivorship programs throughout the state. Team Darien/New Canaan includes members of the Mazzone, Whittaker, Murphy and Gleason families. They are riding for the fifth straight year in the challenge.
