Norwalk's Zeus Swim Team Plans Swim-a-thon NORWALK, Conn. -- The Zeus Swim Team will be holding a Swim-a-Thon on Thursday, April 25 at the Pat Spinola Natatorium at the Norwalk High School beginning at 4:45 p.m. The Swim-a-Thon is helps raise funds for Zeus, which is coping with the closing of a pool it frequently used at the Norwalk YMCA. The event will also provide funds to enable the club to buy new equipment, provide scholarships for swimmers, cover meet costs, fund athlete travel, and support Special Olympics. William Brucker Runs Marathon For Greenwich Agency GREENWICH, Conn. – Stamford’s William Brucker, communications director for Family Centers in Greenwich, will run the Vermont City Marathon on May 26 to raise funds for the agency’s Early Care and Education program. Brucker has already collected more than $2,500 in donations, and he hopes to raise a total of $5,000 by race day. Brucker ran in the New Jersey Marathon last year and raised $2,5000 for the agency. New Canaan Synchronized Swimmers Take 3rd At Nationals NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan YMCA Aquianas synchronized swim team took third for the second straight year at the U.S. National Synchronized Swimming Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Whirlwind Divers Of New Canaan Shine At East Region Meet NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan YMCA Whirlwind Dive team finished sixth at the Junior East National championships at West Lafayette, Ind. There were 52 teams from 15 states and 271 divers in the meet. Darien’s Piper Van Wagenen finished third on the platform event in the 11-and-under division. She also competed on the 1-meter (16th) and 3-meter (17th) boards. New Canaan’s Claire Ross and Darien’s Anne Farley, Owen Stevens and Wiley Schmidt competed in the 12-13 age group. Boston Marathon Tragedy Will Not Deter Runners FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Terrorism has hit us again, and this time it hit home. Monday’s bombs at the Boston Marathon rocked my community, my friends and my extended family. Fortunately, all of the runners and workers from Fairfield County at the race escaped unharmed.
