North Bergen Cop Went Home When He Was Supposed To Be On Duty: Prosecutor A 27-year-old North Bergen police officer was arrested and charged with theft after authorities say he wasn't doing his job. Rasheed Siyam was arrested on Monday, Sept. 15 after an investigation found that on various dates between November 2024 and May 2025, Siyam returned to his home while on duty for extended periods of time, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello. He remained at home over 130 hours beyond department approved meal break, Mello said. Siyam is charged with theft by deception, Mello said.

Orange Man Killed After Crashing Into 2 Trees On Route 280: Njsp A 79-year-old Orange man was killed in a crash on Route 280 on Sunday, Sept. 14, authorities said. At 12:57 a.m., troopers responded to Route 280 east in Orange after a Honda SUV veered off the roadway, struck a mound of sand, overturned and crashed into two trees, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Joel Sterling, the driver of the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lebron said. The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.

At 10:26 a.m. officers responded to Pleasant Valley Road after a motorcycle struck a guardrail, Holmdel police said.  The motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was treated on scene and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in critical condition, police said, but has since died, according to New Jersey State Police fatal crash data. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
