Chester Man, 62, Killed After Snowmobile Slams Into Stump, Trees On Vermont Trail Authorities have identified the 62-year-old Connecticut man who was killed over the weekend when the snowmobile he was riding crashed into trees.  Kevin Smith, of Chester, Connecticut, was killed around 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, on VAST Trail 513 in Stannard, Vermont, state police said. Authorities said he drifted off the trail and crashed into a stump, which threw him from the snowmobile and into multiple trees. Authorities attempted life-saving measures but were unable to save his life. Vermont State Police do not believe alcohol or speed contributed to the crash.
