Eye Drops Tainted With Bacteria Linked To Deaths, Infections, CDC Says
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning about eye drops tainted with bacteria that are now being linked to three deaths and dozens of infections. In addition, eight people have reported vision loss and there have been four reports of eyes being removed after the drops were used. A total of 68 people in 16 states have been identified as having infections of a rare strain of drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa never before reported in the United States before this outbreak, according to the CDC. Maryland AG Reaches Massive Settlement with Google Over Location Tracking Practices
Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh has announced that his Consumer Protection Division as well as 39 other attorneys general have reached a $391.5 million multi-state settlement with Google over its location tracking practices relating to Google Account settings. The settlement will also require Google to make it easier for consumers to manage their privacy settings when using Google products, according to Frosh. Two people died on August 5 and two are still recovering from injuries after they were all allegedly struck by lightning in D.C., NBC Washington reported. Two women and two men were hurt from a lightning strike in their immediate vicinity near Lafayette Square on August 4, reports said. The Calvert County Sheriff's Office announced that it is investigating the littering of anti-Semitic propaganda that has been strewn throughout several neighborhoods in the region. An accused serial scammer is behind bars thanks to a savvy would-be victim in the Capital District. Colonie Police said the elderly woman called 911 Wednesday morning, June 22, saying she had received a phone call that she believed to be a scam. She told police a man had called claiming to be an attorney for her granddaughter and said he needed bail money to get her out of jail.
