Flying Tire Slams Into House Below Route 17 Bridge
A dislodged tractor-trailer wheel bounded off a Route 17 bridge and into a house below, authorities said. No one was injured, Rochelle Park Police Lt. James DePreta said following the morning mishap on Tuesday, Sept. 27. "Luckily there was only minor damage to the house," he said. The tire popped off the cab of a tractor-trailer on the bridge just past Cabinets to Go at the Maywood border, then bounded over the side and into the Central Avenue home.

Paramus police captured three thieves who crashed at the Garden State Plaza during a predawn pursuit of two stolen vehicles down Route 17. SUV Plows Through Front Of Route 17 Dunkin' Donuts
A driver was treated for glass in his head after his SUV plowed through the front of a Route 17 Dunkin' Donuts. No other injuries were reported in the crash on the southbound highway near Biggie's, just after Division Avenue, around 2 p.m. A building inspector was requested to determine the extent of structural damage. Gym Fire Doused Off Route 17
Firefighters doused an early-morning commercial blaze off Route 17. The two-alarm fire broke out in a building that houses Powerhouse Gym on McKee Drive in Mahwah around 7 a.m. Firefighters had it knocked down in under a half-hour. Island Road was temporarily closed. No injuries were reported. Mahwah firefighters brought their fan boat to ventilate the building. Mutual aid responders requested either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Ramsey, Montvale, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus, as well as Hilburn, Hillcrest, Sloatsburg, Suffern and Tallman.

Tractor-Trailer Fire Closes Route 17
A rush-hour fire incinerated the cab of a tractor-trailer on Route 17. The rig ignited on the southbound highway in Ramsey just before the Franklin Turnpike exit and across from the Shannon Rose restaurant, sending a column of black smoke skyward that could be seen for miles. Police temporarily closed both sides of the highway as members of the Ramsey Fire Department and Rescue Squad doused the late afternoon blaze with help from their Mahwah colleagues. A woman was seriously injured when an SUV driven by an elderly motorist slammed into a minivan that then hit her in a Route 17 supermarket parking lot, witnesses said. Two Hospitalized In Route 17 Crash
Two people were hospitalized after an overnight crash on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights. The extent of their injuries couldn't immediately be determined following the collision on the northbound side outside the Shell station at Malcolm Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Members of the Moonachie First Aid & Rescue Squad and the Wallington Emergency Squad responded along with Hasbrouck Heights police and firefighters. They took the victims to Hackensack University Medical Center. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Feisty Grandmother, 80, Scuffles With Armed Robber Outside Teterboro Costco
An armed robber in a Costco parking lot got more than he bargained for when an 80-year-old grandmother fought back. The surprised bandit stuck what turned out to be a BB gun in the window of the woman's car in the Teterboro Landing lot across the airport on eastbound Route 46 last Thursday afternoon, Moonachie Police Sgt.
