Thief Busted Removing Tires From Cop’s Personal Car: Newark PD
A thief was arrested after he tried to remove tires from a police officer’s personal vehicle leading to a scuffle on Sunday, June 1, authorities said.
At 4:14 a.m., an off-duty Newark police officer observed a man removing a tire from the officer’s vehicle in the 300 block of 3rd Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
When the officer approached the suspect, a fight ensued, Miranda said. A patrolling Newark police vehicle was flagged down, and the suspect, who was not identified, was arrested without further incident, Miranda said.

A 29-year-old Newark man pleaded guilty on Tuesday, May 27 to robbing a postal worker at gunpoint last November, authorities said.
In November 2023, Troy Corbett was one of four people who stole the victim's cell phone, keys and wallet, containing a credit card and debit card, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba said. The robbery is a federal crime because impeded the postal worker from delivering mail, interfering with interstate commerce, Habba said.

Newark Man Killed After Car Strikes Tree On Route 78: Njsp
A 48-year-old Newark man was killed in a car crash after striking a tree on Route 78 in Newark Thursday evening, May 22, authorities said.
At 9:59 p.m., troopers responded to the scene after a Nissan 350Z was traveling west on the Route 78 ramp from Route 1 and 9, before veering off the roadway to the left and striking a tree, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.
The driver, Gregory Williams, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, Lebron said.
The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.
