Couple Charged With Faking Burglary To Steal Shotgun, Police Say A Fairfield County man and woman were arrested for allegedly faking a burglary in order to steal a shotgun from a home. Sean Smith, 27, of Danbury, and Kathryn Lewis, 26, of Monroe, turned themselves in to the Monroe Police Department on Monday, March 16, for the incident which took place in October 2019, said Monroe Police Lt. Stephen Corrone.  According to Corrone, on Oct. 23, 2019, the Monroe Police Department received a report of a burglary in progress at 16 Nickel Place. Monroe Resident Killed In Crash With Oil Tanker Driven By Bridgeport Man A 29-year-old Fairfield County man was killed after he crashed into the back of an oil tanker. Patrick Mezick, of Monroe, was killed around 8:11 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, on Ortner Drive, just north of Route 145 in Westbrook, said the Connecticut State Police. According to state police, for an unknown reason, Mezick, who was traveling southbound swerved and struck the tank/trailer portion of the truck that was traveling northbound. Mezick died at the scene from his injuries, state police said. The driver of the oil tanker, Robert Cohen, 44, of Bridgeport, was not injured, state police said.…

Motorists are being advised by Animal Control in Monroe to be on the alert for low-flying owls following the second fatal owl strike in the past two weeks.  Officials said the latest incident happened on Tuesday, Feb. 18 when a driver reported an injured owl on the side of the Monroe Turnpike.
