A Long Island attorney is accused of stealing more than $400,000 that was supposed to pay off his client’s loan during a property sale.
Michael Tulchiner, 61, of Bellmore, was arraigned on one count of felony larceny in Suffolk County Court on Friday, Aug. 8.
Tulchiner, the principal attorney at The Law Office of Michael J. Tulchiner in Melville, diverted $413,237 from a mortgage disbursement account between August and December 2022, prosecutors allege.
The money, part of a refinance loan for his client, was designated to pay off a prior loan as part of a real estate closing.

Nadil Ceka, 58, was standing on the shoulder of southbound Bagatelle Road, just south of Dix Woods Drive, while checking on a disabled vehicle around 1:10 p.m. when he was hit by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene, according to the release.

Health officials on Long Island are urging people to take precautions after testing of mosquitoes confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus.
Twelve mosquito samples were positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to county Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
The samples were collected on Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3, in Northport, Melville, West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Holbrook, Holtsville, North Patchogue, Farmingville, and Manorville.
