Sgt. Clifton Weed, 50-Year Stamford PD Member, Ancestor Of City Settler Jonas Weed, Dies
A retired sergeant who served 50 years with the Stamford Police and whose ancestor settled Stamford, has died.
Clifton Eugene (Skip) Weed, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Monday, June 17 at age 80.
Weed was the husband of Mary Ann Weed. He was the eldest son of Lester A. and Mary Ann Weed.
He was a 12th generation descendant of Jonas Weed, an original settler of Stamford.
A graduate of St. Basil Preparatory High School in 1956, he then attended Niagara University for two years. He later married Mary Ann on June 1, 1963.

A “national leader in higher education” is taking his talents from Kentucky to New Rochelle and will become Iona College’s ninth president.
Seamus Carey, the president of Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, has been chosen following an extensive, nationwide search to take over at Iona, effective as of July 1. John Gerard Taaffe, 79, died Sunday, April 28 at the UC San Diego Medical Center after a year-long battle with cancer.
John leaves his wife of 55 years, Shirley, his daughters Lisa and Jeannine, sons-in-law Elliot Levin and Kent Jensen, his grandson Seth and his three siblings Rosemarie, Patrick and Thomas.
