Beginning in September 2023, Barry Barbella would deposit claim checks cut by insurance companies into a business account for the now-closed Franklin Auto Body, Inc. in Englishtown, despite performing no work on the corresponding vehicle, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

A 47-year-old Ocean County man has been arrested charged with the fatal shooting of a Howell man, authorities announced Thursday, Aug. 7.
Salvador Cabellos Diaz is charged with murder in the first degree and multiple weapons offenses, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.
On Thursday, June 5 at 6:45 a.m., Howell police responded to White Street and found Rolando Acte Mejia inside a parked car, dead from two gunshot wounds, Santiago said.

A 21-year-old foreign exchange student from India, residing in Scranton, was arrested and charged on Thursday, May 22, with attempting to collect $80,000 in a phony Amazon scam that defrauded a Howell resident, authorities said.
A Howell resident tried to replace an Amazon order delivered to the wrong address and while searching for Amazon's customer service, was led to an imposter phone number, Howell police said. 90 Burglaries, 230 Charges: Serial NJ Burglar Busted, Brick Police Say
A Berkeley Township man has been arrested and hit with more than 200 charges after committing more than 90 burglaries in Monmouth and Ocean counties, authorities said.
Between December 2024 and January 2025, officers investigated 40 burglaries committed at the CubeSmart storage facility off Route 70, Brick Township police said. The suspect, later identified as Craig Orler, cut through a fence and used bolt cutters to access the storage unit, police said.

A 26-year-old Howell resident, died on Wednesday, Jan. 22 after sustaining injuries in a car crash on Monday, Jan. 20, authorities said.
At 11:01 a.m., a 2024 Black Kia Forte, driven by Kris VanBuskirk, collided with a 2012 Ford F-250 on Route 34 and Airport Blvd. in Wall Township, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.
