After nine years of redefining modern dining in New Jersey, the owners of one Essex County restaurant are heading home to Australia and closing the restaurant.
In an emotional announcement on Instagram, the owners of Common Lot in Millburn, Ehren and Nadine Ryan, said their final service was held on Friday, May 9. The couple, who built a family, a home, and a nationally recognized restaurant in the U.S., said the time had come to return to their roots.

Two Essex County Corrections Officers Die By Suicide On Same Day
Two Essex County corrections officers died by suspected suicide on the same day, authorities confirmed.
Officer Joey Hernandez's death occurred outside the Essex County Jail, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said, while Sgt. Joseph Trezza committed suicide in Roxbury, according to Carmen Martin, a spokesperson for the ECPO.
Both deaths happened on Tuesday, May 6 but are unrelated, Martin said.

Machete Murder: Cliffside Man Convicted Of Stabbing Newark Resident, Prosecutor Says
A 35-year-old Cliffwood man was convicted of first degree murder last month for fatally stabbing a Newark man with a machete, authorities announced Friday, April 11.
Terrance Bailey was found guilty for murdering Daniel Haas, Jr. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said.
Bailey and an accomplice pursued Haas while brandishing a firearm near 207 Cathedral Ct. in Newark, Stephens said. Bailey and the accomplice, who has not been identified, killed Haas with a machete, Stephens said.
Bailey faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison, Stephens said.

A 34-year-old Newark man was convicted on Friday, April 4 of stabbing a man in East Orange 10 times, authorities said.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, Dwayne Barbour waited for Daren Brooks, 31, with a knife at an address in East Orange and ambushed him upon arrival, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said. Brooks ran down the street to escape the attack and the defendant followed, stabbing him over 10 times, Stephens said.
