5-Vehicle Crash Sparks Fire, Injures 6 On Veterans Memorial Highway In Smithtown
A chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles left six people injured — two seriously — and sparked a fire on a busy Long Island roadway, police said.
The crash happened on eastbound Veterans Memorial Highway in Smithtown on Tuesday, March 24, at 5:55 p.m., according to Suffolk County Police.
John Heenan, 60, of Glendale, was driving a 2025 Mazda CX30 in the left lane when he struck the rear of a stopped 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander waiting to turn onto Ledgewood Drive, police said.
