A beloved community leader has been identified as the woman killed when a drunk driver jumped the curb and hit two pedestrians in downtown Carlisle, police and loved ones confirmed over Memorial Day weekend.
Ellen Kievit, 73, of Carlisle, was struck and killed while walking alongside her husband, James, at the intersection of South Hanover and West Pomfret streets around 8:17 p.m. on Friday, May 23, according to Carlisle Borough Police.
Her husband remains in critical condition.
