Neil K. Anand, M.D., 48, most recently of Bensalem, PA, but originally from Albany, NY, was convicted in April 2025 of conspiring to commit health care fraud, wire fraud, and the unlawful distribution of controlled substances. A onetime teacher at a private boarding school in upstate New York will spend decades in prison for torturing and sexually abusing children under his care.
Paul Geer, 58, of Hancock, was sentenced to over 27 years behind bars in Albany federal court on Thursday, Sept. 4, after a jury found he brought two children across state lines to sexually abuse them.
Geer worked at the Family Foundation School, more recently known as Allynwood Academy, from 1994 to 2001. The school shuttered in 2014 amid a wave of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse allegations dating back to the 1990s.

A home intruder was stabbed after forcing his way into an Albany residence, hours after an unrelated knife attack outside a city bank.
Officers responded to a residence on Yates Street near Ontario Street for reports of a domestic disturbance at around 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, Albany Police said.

A man who fired a shotgun outside an Albany synagogue on the first night of Hanukkah in 2023 has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, 29, of Schenectady, pleaded guilty in February to a federal hate crime for the Dec. 7, 2023, incident at Temple Israel, as Daily Voice previously reported.

Drunk Driver Hits, Injures 3 Kids In Albany, Police Say
Three children were hospitalized after a suspected drunk driver hit them in Albany, police said.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, near Lexington Avenue and Second Street, according to Albany Police.
An investigation found that the driver, 36-year-old Melvin Robinson, was heading south on Lexington when he struck the juveniles, who were reportedly in the roadway, police said.
