Southport Man Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion In Scheme To Bilk Benefactor
SOUTHPORT, Conn. -- Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced last week that Orval Furlong, 72, of Southport, waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty in New Haven federal court to one count of tax evasion.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Furlong was a lifelong friend of a wealthy benefactor.
Over the years, the benefactor paid some of Furlong’s debts and financed tuition for Furlong’s children’s schools, court documents reveal.

Taconic State Parkway Stop Results In Fugitive Charge
MILAN, N.Y. -- New York State Police from Rhinebeck have arrested a 51-year-old man from Greenwich, Conn., as a fugitive of justice from New Jersey, police said.
The arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop for speeding on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of Milan on Saturday, police report.
A check of the driver’s license revealed that the driver, identified as Kenneth Wheeler, had an outstanding warrant from Hudson County, N.J., for misapplication of property over $75,000, a felony, according to police.
