St. Patrick's Day Parade Steps Off Under Bright Skies In Bridgeport BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Bands, floats and Irish step dancers converged on downtown Thursday for Bridgeport's annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. “We’re all Irish today,” said Margaret Cheever of Bridgeport, who staked out a prime viewing spot near the corner of State and Broad streets with her husband, Edward, a retired Bridgeport firefighter. Shelton Police: Bridgeport Man Stole 12 Guns, $100,000 in Jewelry SHELTON, Conn. — A Bridgeport man stole 12 firearms, a television and more than $100,000 worth of jewelry in two November burglaries, Shelton police said Thursday. Shelton police arrested Walter Gonzalez, 44, on two active warrants. He was charged with 12 counts of theft of a firearm, two counts of third-degree burglary and one count each of first-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, police said. Bridgeport Recruits Champion Growing Diversity In Police Force BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Six new police recruits met with the media Wednesday in the city’s ongoing effort to show it is working to make the police force as diverse as the citizens it is sworn to protect and serve. Bridgeport Begins Selling Park Stickers For Summer BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The city Department of Parks and Recreation is now selling 2016 parks stickers, allowing access to Seaside and Beardsley parks and permit parking along the St.-Mary’s-By-the-Sea seawall. Stickers are $10 for city residents and taxpayers with proof of current city tax bills. Connecticut residents who don’t live in Bridgeport may buy a sticker for $100 each. Look Up, Fairfield! Two Bird Attacks Reported In Town FAIRFIELD, Conn. — No one’s spotted Alfred Hitchcock in Fairfield, but there were two bird attacks reported in town Friday, police said. A Sturges Road woman called police around 12:30 p.m. to report that her husband needed medical attention to his scalp after he was attacked by what appeared to be a bird of prey. An officer responding to the scene said he was menaced by what he believes was the same bird, police said.
