'Best Book Sale In New England' Opens Soon At Pequot Library In Southport FAIRFIELD, Conn. — With an estimated 140,000 books to choose from, there will be something for every taste at the 56th annual Pequot Library Summer Book Sale, a much-anticipated event from Friday, July 22 through Tuesday, July 26. Dubbed “The Best Book Sale in New England,” the Southport library’s sale draws both book dealers looking for rare finds and voracious readers picking up a novel or two for the beach. Fairfield Ludlowe Seniors Graduate Tonight At Taft Field FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Fairfield Ludlow High School community will gather to celebrate commencement for the Class of 2016 at 6 tonight on the school’s Taft Field. Gates for stadium seating for the ceremony will open at 5 p.m. If the ceremony is moved indoors, the doors to the gym will open at 5 p.m. Each graduate will receive six tickets for the ceremony, if it is outdoors. Tears, Prayers Flow At Westport Vigil For Orlando Victims WESTPORT, Conn. — Tears streamed down Abby Beaumont’s face as she explained why she planned a vigil for the victims of the attack on a Florida nightclub that left 49 dead and another 53 wounded. “I woke up Monday morning and was reading and learning more about it, and I felt so heavy and heartbroken. Students Step Off For Graduations Today At Stratford High, Bunnell High STRATFORD, Conn. — The members of the Class of 2016 at both Stratford High and Bunnell High will graduate at 6 p.m. tonight, June 15. The ceremony for Stratford High will be at Penders Field in Longbrook Park, 103 Glendale Road. The ceremony for Bunnell High will be held on the field at the school at 1 Bulldog Blvd. Guests at each ceremony should plan on arriving no later than 5 p.m. in order to find parking, get seated and prepare for the festivities. Cars Damaged, Items Stolen At Fairfield Cinemas Saturday FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Police reported two cars were broken into Saturday night at the Fairfield Cinemas at Bullard Square. The first complainant said he was in the Black Rock Turnpike cinema from 7 to 9 p.m. and returned to his car in the parking lot to find someone had broken into it and stolen a $150 Armani watch, two Samsung phones valued at $250 and a subwoofer and amplifier valued at $400, police said. New York Man Charged In One-Car Accident In Fairfield FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A New York man was charged with drunk driving in Fairfield Saturday night after he drove his black Jeep in to a stone wall while turning off Longfellow Avenue, police said. Bridgeport Man Arrested In Check-Cashing Scheme, Police Say FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A Bridgeport man who police said is part of a ring of six people trying to pass bad checks in the area was arrested Friday on larceny and forgery charges. In April, the director of Visiting Angels, a Fairfield-based home care agency, told police that someone had cashed a fraudulent check for $1,130 against the agency’s account. Another attempt — this time a check for $1,530 — was made at the Wells Fargo Bank in Trumbull, but that check was not cashed, police said. Traffic Stop In Fairfield Leads To Drug Arrest For Ansonia Man FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A routine traffic stop in Fairfield led to a drug arrest for an Ansonia man early Saturday morning, police said. Around 1:30 a.m. police pulled over a red Mercedes that turned south from Chambers Street to Commerce Drive without using a turn signal, police said.
