Murphy: 'I'll Be Shocked' If NJ Beaches Aren't Reopened By Memorial Day New Jersey’s beaches will likely reopen by Memorial Day -- with social distancing restrictions, Gov. Phil Murphy said Thursday. Although local governments control beaches and boardwalks, Murphy has the authority as governor to order areas open with such restrictions as 50% parking capacity and 6-foot separations among beachgoers. “I will be shocked if our beaches are not open, but with very specific guidance, just as we opened county and state parks,” Murphy said during a live interview with NJTV. “You should expect we’ll give guidance on beaches before Memorial Day.” The beaches would fa…

Joestradamus: Chances Are We Won't Even Notice Snow This Weekend Here’s the thing about this weekend’s snowfall predictions: Even a dusting would be a record for most areas this time of year, meteorologist Joe Cioffi said. "It is hard to believe that we are looking at snow forecast maps during the month of May but such is life these days," Cioffi said Thursday. "This weekend is going to be very cold and windy but it should be nice and sunny for Mothers Day."  “For the coast and most areas it will just be some wet snow mixing in Friday night as low pressure goes by,” Cioffi said. “Well inland in extreme northwest New Jersey and into northern Pe…

Christopher F. Breaking: Newark Archdiocese Permanently Closing 10 Schools In Three Counties The Archdiocese of Newark said Thursday that it is closing a number of its schools in Bergen, Essex and Union counties -- and consolidating them into others -- at the end of the current school year. Factors considered in the closings included "declining enrollment numbers and increasing and unsustainable dependence on archdiocesan funding over time," the archdiocese said. "Consideration also was given to geographic locations and proximity to nearby matched archdiocesan schools that will accommodate new students." The schools being closed are: Academy of St. Therese of Lisieux, Cresskill …

‘Going Somewhere I’ve Never Been’: Talk-Radio 'Godfather' Barry Farber Dies At 90 Death is “going somewhere I've never been before, like Finland or Estonia,” New York-area talk radio giant Barry Farber told his daughter. Celia Ingrid Farber recalled her father’s words in a tweet about his death at home in New York City Wednesday night, a day after his 90th birthday. Before Hannity and Beck, before O’Reilly -- and even Limbaugh -- there was Barry Farber. A member of the National Radio Hall of Fame, Farber was a pioneer of talk radio, a conservative in a time when opposing views were debated respectfully and intelligently, a familiar voice to a mass audience of all politi…

Stop Worrying: ‘Murder' Hornets Aren’t Coming, Experts Say Fearmongering warnings of a pending "murder hornet" invasion are creating unnecessary worry, experts in the field say. There are no confirmed reports of the large pest’s presence anywhere else in North America but in Washington State and British Columbia – and those were from last year, said Professor Dina M. Fonseca, director of the Center for Vector Biology in the Department of Entomology in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers-New Brunswick. The Asian giant hornet (vespa mandarinia) "has not yet been detected this spring and we do not expect them on the East Co…
