Weston Girls Basketball Builds For The Long Haul WESTON, Conn. – Dan Rosen won 14 games in his first year as the coach of the Weston High School girls basketball in the 2010-11 season. Rosen’s objective, however, since he has taken the reins has not been about short-term success. He is more interested in developing a foundation that can sustain over the long haul. Three years into it, Rosen feels the base is starting to solidify. “We’re getting there,’’ he said after a 48-16 win over Faith Prep on Wednesday, which hiked the Trojans’ record to 4-8 on the season. “I think all the things we’ve been doing with our youth program are starting…

Stamford Hoop Coach Struggles With Subpar First Season STAMFORD, Conn. – Like his predecessors, Dan Melzer figures to be around for the long term as the coach of the Stamford High School boys basketball team. The Black Knights slipped to 2-9 overall and 1-8 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference on Tuesday night with a 66-63 loss to Wilton. Melzer, a former Stamford player and former assistant to long-time coach Jim Moriarty, knew his team would struggle with an inexperienced team this winter. Wilton Boys Basketball Shows It Can Win The Close Ones WILTON, Conn. – Wilton High School’s boys basketball team played several tight games this season. But the difference Tuesday against Stamford was that the Warriors found a way to win. Wilton improved to 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the league with a 66-63 victory over the Black Knights. After losing three games by two points already this season, it was critical for the Warriors to squeak out a close one. “Winning these tight games helps a lot,’’ coach Joel Geriak said. “We’ve lost so many close ones already this season. And the ones we’ve won have been by 10 or 15 points. We went over situation…
