Tucci Takes Swing at Making Bats Tucci Takes Swing at Making Bats Tucci Takes Swing at Making Bats
Tucci Takes Swing at Making Bats During his six years in professional baseball, Pete Tucci Jr. tinkered constantly with his bats. “If there was something off on it, I would go to the hardware store and make it like I wanted,’’ said Tucci, a first-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1996. A hand injury shortened his career and cost him an opportunity to play Major League Baseball. Now, instead of swinging bats, he makes them. He wanted to stay involved in the game, and cutting, sanding, shaping and painting bats is a perfect outlet for him. He makes them out of the garage in his Norwalk home. All of Tucci’s bats ar…
Inactivity Doesn't Sit Well with Kuchta Inactivity Doesn't Sit Well with Kuchta Inactivity Doesn't Sit Well with Kuchta
Inactivity Doesn't Sit Well with Kuchta Emily Kuchta hates cheering from the sidelines. “Maybe when I have my own kids, but not now,’’ the New England College junior said. Unfortunately for Kuchta, slapping backs, pounding fists and screaming her lungs out is the only way to support her lacrosse teammates these days. Kuchta, who graduated from Brien McMahon High School, broke her left fibula during an ice hockey game against Holy Cross on Jan. 29.  Her leg was in a cast for six weeks, and her muscles weakened. She is rehabilitating the leg now. Kuchta, who also plays field hockey for the Pilgrims, chomps mightily on the bullet fr…

Houston Message Inspiring at YMCA Visit “She seems so excited about this,’’ Allan Houston said Saturday at the Norwalk YMCA as Kern Jordan’s 3-year-old daughter, Cassiah, wiggled, fidgeted and giggled while her father tried unsuccessfully to keep her quiet. Jordan’s daughter might not have appreciated Houston’s wisdom, but the former Knicks’ guard message definitely resonated with her father. Houston talked of faith, responsibility and leadership to about 250 people on the YMCA basketball court. Kern Jordan, who has spent his entire life in Norwalk and works for the Norwalk Board of Education, found Houston inspiring. “I thought …
