New Race Hits the Beach in Fairfield In the crowded Fairfield County racing scene, it's often difficult for new races to get a foothold in their early years. Sunday's inaugural Christie's Run It While You Can 5-kilometer race seems like it's destined to break the mold. There are nearly 400 runners pre-registered for Sunday's race at Jennings Beach. The event includes a two-mile fitness walk, a fun run for the kids, a one mile youth road race and a family fun run. The conclusion will feature a group plunge in Long Island Sound. Jake Passero led Norwalk with a 45, while Drew Pennell shot 49. Stamford's Colin Velander and Chad Weissman shot 38 to share medalist honors for Stamford (7-8). Mitch Berkoff shot 41 for the Black Knights.

Thursday, junior Rob Gau stepped up in the biggest spot of his career and pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings to lead Staples to a 2-1 victory over Greenwich in a key Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference baseball game. Gau fanned six and walked five before giving way to Speer, who survived a shaky seventh inning for the save. Golf Suits Children to a Tee About 10 children participate in a golf clinic conducted Tuesdays at Oak Hills Golf Course in Norwalk. Professional Vin Grillo and his staff give children golf instruction. The players work on all aspects of the game with help from Grillo and his instructional staff.
