Bridgeport surrendered two three-run leads during the game. Luis Gonzalez tossed six strong innings of one-run baseball in the victory. He allowed three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Bottini Breaks Through in Triathlon If there was an overall series championship for Fairfield County triathlons, Wilton's Katie Bottini would be the runaway winner. The 24-year-old Wilton athlete, who finished second in three previous triathlons around the county earlier this summer, broke through Saturday with a victory in the ITPMan Triathlon in Darien. "It was a good course for me,'' Bottini said. "It was a little bit longer than the usual sprint triathlon distance, so that helped me a little bit." Bottini finished second in the KIC It Triathlon in Stamford in June, in the Mossman Triathlon in July in Norwalk and the Park …

Trumbull Blitzes Norwalk, 48-0 Trumbull Blitzes Norwalk, 48-0 Trumbull Blitzes Norwalk, 48-0
Trumbull Blitzes Norwalk, 48-0 The 48-0 loss Friday night to Trumbull isn't what hurt Norwalk coach Pete Tucci the most. The Bears' lack of effort made the veteran coach's blood boil. "I can take losing 100-0 if we give a good effort,'' Tucci said. "I'm embarrassed." Trumbull (3-0) scored on its first offensive series and led 20-0 at halftime. Quarterback Ian Milne threw two touchdown passes and ran for another. Trumbull also scored on a 78-yard interception return by Phil Terio in the second quarter. Milne's 39-yard touchdown pass to Terio on the first drive of the second quarter led a 28-point explosion in the second h…
Staples Hands Norwalk First Loss Staples Hands Norwalk First Loss Staples Hands Norwalk First Loss
Staples Hands Norwalk First Loss Norwalk boys soccer coach Chris Laughton was not happy that his team suffered its first loss of the season Friday, a 1-0 setback to Staples. He did, however, see a silver lining. "It's a good thing for them to have to learn how to play from behind,'' Laughton said. The state's top-ranked team had not trailed all season in rolling to a 6-0 record. "They have to know what it feels like. Better to learn now than in November." Max Hoberman scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the second half. Mike Scott's throw-in found Hoberman, and he got his foot on a shot that got by Norwalk fresh…

Staples Hands Norwalk First Loss Staples' soccer team entered Friday's showdown with Norwalk with an uncharacteristic two losses. The Wreckers' 1-0 win showed the rest of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference that they are still a force to be reckoned with. Max Hoberman's goal in the 44th minute lifted the Wreckers over the previously unbeaten Bears (6-1), who were ranked No. 1 in the state. "We wanted to take a step forward today,'' coach Dan Woog said. "I think we took three or four steps forward." Quality scoring chances were rare for each side. Wind played a key part in the game, and Norwalk failed t…
