Mamaroneck Entrepreneur Leaves Banking To Invest In 'Kool' Kids At first glance, the t-shirts and hoodies at Kool Nerd Clothing look like anything else you might find online. But in reality, each piece of clothing unlocks the potential for a child in a high unemployment area to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (also known as S.T.E.A.M/S.T.E.M). Mamaroneck resident Orane Barrett left his job as an investment banker to start the company, in operation since March 2016. His reasoning? Unemployment in lower-income communities is three-times the national average while 500,000-plus S.T.E.M. jobs are currently unstaffed. His K…

Metro-North Is A Joke: Yonkers Comedian Uses Westchester As Inspiration Heard the joke about Metro-North? Nore Davis has a bunch of them. The comedian, who was born and raised in Yonkers, likes to riff about everyday life in Westchester.  That includes bits about the friend he's known forever that recently turned gluten-free (making dining out tough), how Staples is benefiting from the protest movement (which has practically turned into Pokémon GO) and how he's already getting poor posture from his smartphone. "We're going to be the first of our generation that complains in the old age home that we don't have good WiFi," he said.  Davis, who's been …

(The cinnamon sugar donuts that they make themselves are a story in themselves.) According to the restaurant's website, the diner opened in November 1987 and has undergone several renovations since then. Mainly the family-owned eatery sets out t…
