Hartford Officer Justified In Shooting Armed Man, State Watchdog Finds State investigators have ruled that a Hartford police officer was justified when she twice shot a man who refused to drop his gun during a confrontation last year.  The Office of the Inspector General said on Thursday, Oct. 23, that Officer Gabrielle Arruda’s actions were “objectively reasonable” during the confrontation with 49-year-old Alexander Garay on Nov. 30, 2024. Man, 74, In Critical Condition Following Waterbury Hit-And-Run Crash Waterbury police are asking for tips after a 74-year-old man was left in critical condition following a hit-and-run crash on Wednesday night, Oct. 22.  Police responded to 835 Wolcott St. in Waterbury around 10:20 p.m. and found the man suffering life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Officials did not release the man's identity.  Paramedics took him to an area hospital, where he remained in critical condition Thursday.  Waterbury police urge anyone with information on the hit-and-run to contact the Crash Reconstruction Team at 203-346-3975.

Man Killed In Milford Homeless Encampment Fire Was Victim Of Homicide: Medical Examiner The death of a man killed in a fire at a Connecticut homeless encampment earlier this year has been ruled a homicide, according to the state  Joseph Kane, 57, of West Haven, died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries he received in the Aug. 15 fire at an emcampment in Milford, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said on Wednesday, Oct. 22.  The fire broke out in a wooded area behind the Lowe’s store on Old Gate Lane.
