Police ID Norwich Man Who Died In Weekend Crash; Bystanders Tried To Save His Life Police in Connecticut have identified the 67-year-old man who died in a weekend crash. Paul Daley, of Norwich, was the driver and only person in the vehicle that crashed on Taftville-Occum Road in Norwich, near the River View Lane Condominium Complex, shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, police said.  Bystanders heard the crash and rushed to help. They performed CPR on Daley before Norwich police, firefighters, and paramedics arrived.  An ambulance took Daley to William W. Backus Hospital. The crash happened Sunday, Aug. 9, at about 5 p.m. near Connecticut Avenue and Elmcrest Terrace in Norwalk. The SUV was heading north when it struck the guardrail at high speed, fire officials said. Michael P. Mattox, 45, of Doral, Florida, was arrested last week by East Lyme police and was charged with first-degree larceny after a lengthy investigation, authorities said.  Mattox previously served as CEO of Birk Manufacturing. Police ID Uncasville Man Killed In Groton Hit-Run Crash; Police Searching For Black SUV Police have identified the victim of a deadly Connecticut hit-and-run as a 39-year-old man. Dustin Tanta-Quidgeon, of Uncasville, was struck around 11:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, on Toll Gate Road near Crawford Lane in Groton.  Police say a black SUV crashed into Tanta-Quidgeon and sped away, leaving him bleeding in the road. A witness, who is an EMT, rushed over to perform CPR as paramedics raced to the scene.  Firefighters, ambulance crews, and paramedics continued advanced lifesaving efforts. Tanta-Quidgeon died at the scene.
