A New York man admitted he was drunk while underage, speeding, and ran a red light before crashing into and killing a police officer as she drove to work, prosecutors announced on Thursday, June 11.
Matthew Smith, now 21, of Hauppauge, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and numerous related charges for the Jan. 31 crash that killed Officer Patricia Espinosa and seriously injured his passenger, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.

A 4-year-old boy was found wandering alone in a Pennsylvania parking lot, leading to charges against his mother, police announced on Thursday, June 11.
Norah Roth-Moore, 41, was charged with Endangering the Welfare of Children following an investigation by the Kennett Square Police Department.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Race Street in Kennett Square after reports of an unaccompanied child walking alone in a parking lot around 8:13 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, according to police.

A 36-year-old Philadelphia man was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter in Atlantic County, authorities announced Wednesday, June 10, authorities said.
On Sunday, June 5, 2022, a deceased man, identified as D.H. was found dead in Kentucky Avenue in Atlantic City, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.
Video obtained by investigators showed George Harrell leaning over the victim and reach toward him, and then D.H. is seen slumping over, authorities said. Harrell then walks away from the stabbing to a parked school bus, authorities said.
