A 28-year-old man died after being caught in a rip current off a Long Beach Island beach, authorities said. Police, firefighters, and EMS crews responded to East 21st Street in Ship Bottom at approximately 2:28 p.m. on Friday, June 5, after receiving reports that four people were caught in a rip current, according to the Ship Bottom Police Department. A search was underway Friday evening, June 5 for a swimmer in distress in Seaside Heights. Multiple photos shared to social media show the US Coast Guard helicopters among the response team at Decatur Beach.
