Panicked Patrons Flee Following Fight, Bogus 'Shots Fired' Report At Paramus Carnival
UPDATE: An anxious carnival-goer triggered what became a false report of shots fired at a police-sponsored anti-drug event in Paramus over the weekend. Two men -- one of them an off-duty police officer -- got into an argument around 7 p.m. Saturday at the L.E.A.D. carnival on the grounds of the Westfield Garden State Plaza off Route 17, a source with direct knowledge of the incident told Daily Voice. Two Drive-In Theaters Coming To Paramus
As malls throughout the state received approval to reopen their doors, Paramus officials have approved two plans for drive-in movie theaters, reports say. The first theater will be located in the parking lot of Westfield Garden State Plaza, which, ironically, was one of New Jersey’s last drive-in theaters before it was demolished and turned into one of the mall’s parking lots in the 1980s, NorthJersey reports. A group of New Jersey mayors have formed a coalition in hopes of persuading Gov. Phil Murphy to reopen indoor malls. Woodbridge Mayor John E. McCormac is helming the coalition of mayors, all of whom have large indoor mall and shopping centers in their municipalities. : Zinburger Suing Garden State Plaza Over 'Ghost Town' Mall Location
When Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar signed a lease at the Westfield Garden State Plaza in 2012, its section of the mall was bustling. Seven years later and the burger restaurant remains one of the few tenants remaining in its section. Several retailers were vacated in 2017 and 2018 -- including JCPenney -- and Zinburger is down nearly 20 percent in sales, making it unprofitable, according to a lawsuit filed by the restaurant against the mall. An attempt to unclog a toilet at the Garden State Plaza sent one person to the hospital for chemical exposure Wednesday, authorities said.
