A Massapequa man whose BMW SUV plowed into three pedestrians on a Freeport Village sidewalk has been charged with DWI and other crimes, police said. Mitchell Messling, 66, was driving the vehicle westbound on West Merrick Road near the intersection of South Long Beach Avenue around 4:10 p.m., Monday, May 27, when he left the roadway and drove partially onto the sidewalk, Nassau County Police said. Man Dies Nearly Two Weeks After Crash With Suspected Drunk Driver
A 27-year-old man from Westchester died following a near two-week battle after being struck by an alleged drunk driver from Yonkers on March 31. Fernando Izazaga of New Rochelle was struck by another 27-year-old, Johnny Gialanella, of Yonkers, shortly after 1 a.m. in downtown New Rochelle on March 31, officials said. Following a 12-day battle in the hospital, he was pronounced dead this week. The driver of a silver sedan driving drunk has been charged with vehicular assault after crashing into a taxi cab in Westchester on Thanksgiving morning, seriously injuring a woman, according to a News 12 report.
