Ex-NY Times Editor Slams Coverage Of NYC Huge Congressional Primary Upset
Jill Abramson, the first female executive editor of The New York Times, blasted her former newspaper’s political coverage for missing campaign progress by Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez -- who pulled off a stunning victory in Tuesday's primary election. Ocasio-Cortez, 28, easily defeated incumbent U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley, seated in Congress since 1999 and once seen as a likely successor to Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi. Linking to the so-called "Gray Lady's" article asking “Who Is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?” Abramson wrote that she was angered by the question. “Kind of pi…

It's Official: Maloney To Run For Attorney General
U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, a third-term Democratic congressman Putnam County, has decided to run for New York Attorney General, according to multiple news reports. Maloney floated the notion of seeking the nomination shortly after Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned suddenly over a sex and battery abuse scandal. Maloney's entry into the Democratic primary for Attorney General raised these legal questions: Can he spend any of his more than $3 million in congressional campaign funds on a statewide election? And can Maloney seek two public offices at the same time, since he also …

Scammed: Lodi Woman In Credit Card Debt From Bogus Facebook Lottery
A 55-year-old Lodi woman says she is in credit card debt -- and she's blaming Facebook scammers. She says in the article that she has been thwarting off and reporting messages from scammers ever since then. The New York Times found 205 accounts impersonating Mark Zuckerberg on both Facebook and Instagram, at least 51 of them lottery scams. Schwartz recently received a message from an account named Mary Williams saying she would help claim her winning…

Self-Driving Vehicles 'Have Long Way To Go' After Fatality, Blumenthal Says
In the wake of a fatal crash involving a self-driving Uber car in Arizona, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut is calling on Congress to take steps to ensure autonomous vehicle technology can be implemented safely. Uber and other companies have been testing driverless cars for years in Arizona in an effort to move the technology forward. Over the weekend, one of those vehicles operated by Uber - with an emergency backup driver behind the wheel - struck and killed a woman on a street in Tempe, Ariz. Testing on the vehicles has since been suspended. In response to the fatal incident,…

Cuomo Hits Back As 'Sex And The City' Star Mulls Primary Challenge
This story has been updated. A day after news broke that "Sex And the City" star Cynthia Nixon was talking with Democratic strategists about entering this year's primary race against Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New Castle, the two-term incumbent wasted no time denigrating Nixon as a B-rated celebrity backed by his longtime Democratic critic, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. In a conference call with news reporters on Wednesday, Cuomo laughed at his own answer to a question about whether de Blasio, a longtime friend of Nixon, is behind her candidacy. “I think it was probably either th…

CT Congressional Delegation Opposes Trump's Offshore Drilling Plan
U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT), and U.S. Reps. John Larson (CT-1), Joe Courtney (CT-2), Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Jim Himes (CT-4), and Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) wrote Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke on Wednesday, Feb. 21, expressing opposition to the proposed expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling that could devastate Connecticut’s economy and environment. Zinke announced in January that the Trump Administration would expand offshore oil and gas leasing to encompass about 90 percent of the United States’ coastal waters. The congressional letter was submitted as …
