The future is grim for Stop & Shop's underperforming stores in the Northeast. The grocery giant — which operates 400 stores across Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts (where the company is headquartered) — announced plans to close a number of its underperformers in the interest of company longevity, officials confirmed with Daily Voice. A trio was discovered to be running a shoplifting ring across the state after police caught them attempting to steal food from a Connecticut Stop & Shop. The Fairfield County incident took place on Monday, April 29 in Darien. Police in Connecticut are investigating after thieves backed through a Stop & Shop gas station door and made off with a cash register. The incident occurred in Hartford County around 4 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, at the New Britain store on West Main Street. According to Rachel Zaniewski of the New Britain Police, officers responded to a burglary after a vehicle backed through the door to the Stop and Shop gas station. CT Woman Caught On Camera Keying Car In Stop & Shop Parking Lot, Police Say
A Connecticut woman was charged with criminal mischief after she allegedly keyed a car in a grocery store parking lot. Hartford County resident Mimi L. Fluharty, age 62, of South Windsor, was arrested on Tuesday, April 30, for an incident in February at the Stop & Shop at 1739 Ellington Road in South Windsor. According to Lt. Mark Cleverdon of the South Windsor Police, Fluharty turned herself in to police after being caught on video surveillance causing the damage. She was released on a $1,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 15.
