It's Official: Tornado Touched Down In Stanhope, NWS Says
Field investigators from the National Weather Service have determined that a tornado touched down in Stanhope, the agency announced Wednesday afternoon. Much of northern New Jersey was under a tornado watch and the region was subjected to high winds and heavy rains between about 9 and 10 p.m. Tuesday night, but so far it appears only the Sussex County community was hit by a twister. Lenape Valley High School in Stanhope will be closed Wednesday due to damage possibly sustained in a tornado Tuesday. Officials did not confirm that a tornado had touched down but the announcement that the school would be closed came shortly after a tornado warning was issued for the region. Feds Charge Morris County Ex-Con With Building, Exploding Bomb
Federal agents arrested a Morris County man who they said built and exploded a bomb. Christopher Faschan, a 31-year-old ex-con from Landing, remained in custody Thursday pending an appearance Friday in U.S. District Court in Newark. He is charged with possessing several “explosive/destructive devices,” as well as precursor materials, and with being a felon in possession of explosive materials, firearms and ammunition, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. School Bus Driver Gets 5 Years For Viewing, Sharing Child Porn During Breaks
A former school bus driver from Stanhope was sentenced Thursday to five years in state prison for trafficking child pornography online. Eugene Triston, 58, admitted last year that he viewed and shared upwards of 500 images on breaks between bus runs of elementary school students and others in the Sparta School District.
