Detectives investigating a rash of business break-ins in several Bergen County towns didn't have far to look: The spree ended with the arrest of a career burglar from Passaic with a history of similar behavior.
Ex-con Nicolas Torres, 39, has a criminal record stretching back more than 15 years, mostly for burglarizing businesses, records show.
A few years ago, he was charged with breaking into several real estate and doctors’ office in Maywood, Fort Lee, Oradell, and Westwood, as well as in Middlesex County.

Arrangements For Late Tow Truck-Driving Bergen First Responder Include Procession
A tow truck procession escorted by police will honor a driver who was killed while responding to a call on Route 3.
The procession for Robert Thornton, 31, an EMS volunteer from Ridgefield Park, will begin at 3:45 p.m. Friday, March 4, on southbound Veterans Boulevard. Rutherford police will lead the procession, joined by other local police motorcycle units.
Thornton, who donated his organs, will be cremated and his remains interred in Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee with his father's, said his cousin, Monique Schwarz.

Four NJ Smoke Shops Raided, Five Busted For Selling Pot, THC Edibles
A group of owners and operators sold pot and THC products out of smoke shops in Englewood, Butler, Randolph, and Scotch Plains, charged authorities who busted them during a series of raids.
Detectives assisted by the DEA seized seizure of hundreds of pounds of marijuana, THC edibles and THC wax/oil, along with $305,000 in illicit proceeds, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
