: Police Rescue Victims After SUV Rolls Off Route 17 Onto Railroad Bed
Police rescued the occupants of an SUV that rolled 50 yards off Route 17 into a ditch next to railroad tracks in Carlstadt. Both refused medical attention after the Sunday afternoon crash, Detective Sgt. John Cleary said. Officers Felix D’Amico and William Pangaro, who found both residents trapped, got them out with help from their colleagues from Wood-Ridge and East Rutherford, he said. This story has been updated. A 19-car-pileup during the height of the Nor'easter was one of numerous storm-related crashes in the region, although most motorists stayed off roadways. 23-Year-Old Issued Nine Tickets After Operating Unregistered Dirt Bike On Route 17, Police Say
A Rockland County resident was issued nine tickets and other moving violations for operating a dirt bike with no headlights. The 23-year-old Nanuet man was arrested on Sunday, Dec. 13, after Ramapo Police responded to Route 17 for an unregistered dirt bike driving with no lights, police said. The unidentified man was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration and issued nine tickets and various moving and equipment violations. He was released on his own recognizance and will appear in Sloatsburg Village Court at a future date.

Motorist Threatens Victim With Knife During Road-Rage Incident In Area, Police Say
State police charged a man from the area after he threatened another driver with a military-style knife during a road-rage incident, ultimately using it to damage the other driver's car. According to troopers in Middletown, the incident took place at approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 in the city of Crawford. No, They're Not Repaving Route 17: Truck Keels, Macadam Spills
A dump truck spilled macadam onto a Route 17 exit and entrance ramp Saturday morning. The driver got out OK after the mishap at the southbound exit in Allendale around 9:45 a.m. A heavy duty wrecker was needed to right and remove the truck, as well as equipment, shovels -- and brooms -- to clean up the mess. The ramp off and onto Route 17 at East Allendale Avenue was closed for the time being. Bergen County sheriff's officers joined Allendale police and firefighters and state DOT workers at the scene.

UPDATE: A chain-reaction crash on Route 17 Friday afternoon sent two people to the hospital. Taken to Hackensack University Medical Center were two drivers -- one 32 out of Clifton, the other 57 out of North Arlington -- following the crash on the northbound highway in Hasbrouck Heights shortly after noon. A fully loaded garbage truck tipped over on a Route 17 exit ramp late Wednesday morning. The driver was hospitalized with back and neck injuries after climbing from the rig, which rolled onto its side on the ramp from southbound Route 17 onto eastbound Linwood Avenue in Ridgewood by the Stop & Shop at the Paramus border shortly after 11 a.m. Ridgewood police, firefighters and EMS were joined by Paramus police.
