Drone Used To Find Stranded Boat Off Long Island, 5 Rescued
Five people were rescued after police used a drone to find a 17-foot boat stranded off the coast of Long Island. The incident occurred around 10 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, in Peconic Bay in Riverhead. According to the Riverhead Police, the department received a 911 call from a person on the boat drifting without power. The caller said there were five people on the vessel. The department deployed a drone to locate the boat in the water, and the Dive Team was activated and responded once it was found. Dive Team members found five people on the boat, all in good health. Just after 10:30 p.m. that night, 35-year-old Craig Cherney allegedly walked into Shah’s Halal Food, located at 1767 Old Country Road with a gun. Police on Long Island are asking the public for help after a vehicle was found with bullet holes. The incident occurred in Riverhead around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, on Oakland Drive South. A Long Island man accused of identity theft is facing three felony charges after police say he wore surgical masks to make purchases. New York State Police said that in November 2022, investigators received a complaint about a fraudulent purchase from the North Fork True Value in Riverhead.
