Man, 20, Barricades Himself Inside Carmel Home, Police Say
A local man who barricaded himself inside his Carmel home, threatening to hurt himself, was coaxed out by the Carmel Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. Officers were altered to the situation on Bullet Hole Road in Mahopac around 6:20 p.m. Sunday when they were asked to perform a welfare check on the man who was possibly suicidal, police said. An officer from the Carmel Police Department responded to a residence and when he attempted to speak with the man, he became highly agitated. Drive To Aid Putnam Sheriff's Deputy Battling Cancer Nears $45K
Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Michael "Mo" Schmidt, 39, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in September 2016. According to this GoFundMe page set up by his uncle, Schmidt had been sick since Thanksgiving 2015, but was misdiagnosed for almost a year. At this time there is no known cure for this disease, but its progression can be slowed. So far, family and friends have raised nearly $45,000 of their $150,000 GoFundMe goal to help defray some of Schmidt's medical costs. Putnam Man, 25, Nabbed For Drug Dealing
A 25-year-old Putnam man was nabbed for dealing drugs after selling cocaine to an undercover cop, according to Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. In July of 2017, a deputy assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit developed information that a resident was involved in the sale of cocaine within the county, said Capt. Lisa Ortolano. The deputy was able to make contact with Giovanni J. Rogonia of Putnam Valley and arrange for the purchase of cocaine, she added.
