Hackensack Carpenter Stabbed After Pool Game At Port Authority Bar
A 46-year-old Hackensack carpenter who stopped at the same Port Authority bar he's been going to for the past 25 years landed in the hospital this week when a fellow patron stabbed him over what he said was a game of pool. The victim, who requested anonymity, went into McAnn's for a couple of beers after work as he always does, this time with his cousin visiting from the United Kingdom on Thursday, Aug. 4, he said. "I don't know exactly what happened," said the victim, who requested anonymity. "All I know is we were playing pool, there was a dispute over money, and we got into a f…

TSA At Newark Airport Picks Off First Gun Of July 4th Weekend
The July Fourth weekend started off at Newark Airport's TSA security checkpoints with what wasn't exactly a bang but still drew a lot of attention. A TSA officer at a checkpoint X-ray monitor spotted a gun inside a traveler's carry-on bag, agency spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said. It was the 10th firearm picked off at a Newark Airport checkpoint this year, she said. The man told officials that he "forgot that he had his loaded gun with him," Farbstein said. Port Authority police were alerted and took him into custody, Farbstein said. “This is lining up to be what is likely the busiest tr…

'I Forgot,' 'I Didn't Know': Guns, Excuses Piling Up At Newark Airport Checkpoints
It doesn’t rank with airports in Atlanta, Houston or Dallas in terms of numbers, but Newark Liberty has had what the TSA and Port Authority say are an alarming amount of guns seized from passengers trying to board planes with them. And most of those things are loaded. It's become an epidemic, said Thomas Carter, the Transportation Security Administration’s director for New Jersey, during a Wednesday news conference at the airport. “Guns and ammunition are never allowed to pass through a security checkpoint to be carried onto a flight, even if a traveler has a concealed carry permit,” Cart…

How Did GWB Jumper Get Onto Upper Level Overnight?
A confirmed report of a jumper from the George Washington Bridge raised more questions than it answered. Responders said Port Authority police found the man threatening to jump from the upper level of the bridge around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. He jumped into the Hudson River about 20 minutes later, they said. The NYPD Harbor Patrol responded during a search, which was suspended shortly before 4 a.m. Among the questions still unanswered is how the man ended up on the upper level at that hour. The southern upper-level walkway is closed from midnight to 6 a.m. The north side walkway is always …

One Of These Vehicles Is Not Like The Others: Repetitive Toll Evader Nabbed At Holland Tunnel
Mechanical devices that cover the license plates of vehicles gliding past Hudson River bridge and tunnel tolls were once a rarity. Exorbitant tolls have upped the ante, however. This week, an observant Port Authority police officer at the Holland Tunnel caught yet another driver utilizing an electronic sliding panel to cover a rear plate, authorities said. Quintin T. White, 41, of Brooklyn wasn't only one of several motorists who've failed to slip by the PAPD's watchful eye in recent weeks, Port Authority Spokeswoman Lenis Valens said. He has also cheated the Port Authority and the MTA ou…

High-Tech Toll Evader Nabbed By Port Authority PD
VIDEO: New technology isn't just for crime fighters. Just ask Port Authority police, who thwarted a unique toll-evasion move at the Holland Tunnel. A Dodge Durango driven by Sean Nicholas Seagers, 32, of the Bronx drew an officer's attention shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, because it was missing a front license plate, Port Authority Spokeswoman Lenis Valens said. As the truck was about to roll through a cashless lane, Seagers hit a switch and a black panel slid down over the rear license plate, Valens said. Police who staff New York metropolitan area bridges and tunnels often se…

Drunk Motorist Drives Wrong Way Through Holland Tunnel: Port Authority PD
A tragedy was averted when a drunk driver from Manhattan exited the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City, made a U-turn and headed back east in the westbound lane, authorities said. James Dickerson, 30, was driving a BMW when he made the dangerous maneuver in the north tube shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, Port Authority Spokesperson Lenis Valens said. Fortunately, the lane he used was closed to NJ-bound traffic, an officer at the tunnel said. Port Authority police charged Dickerson with DWI, reckless driving and failing to obey a traffic control device and given a date to respond in…

What, No Ejector Seat? NJ Driver Had Bond-Like Gizmo To Duck Tolls, Police Say
VIDEO: You might've thought he was a James Bond or "Kingsman" fan after a New Jersey driver was nabbed by Port Authority police for using an electronic gizmo to evade tolls. A New Jersey State Police trooper had notified them after seeing a blackout curtain descend over the rear license plate of a white Dodge Challenger as it passed through the cashless toll gate at the Holland Tunnel earlier this month, Port Authority Spokesperson Lenis Valens said. The muscle car had no front plate, she said. A Port Authority officer spotted the driver -- identified as Mark A. Aponte, 28, of Parlin -- d…
