The positive COVID-19 infection rate in Rockland County is trending in the right direction but is still outpacing the statewide numbers. While the statewide infection rate has remained near or below 1 percent for several weeks, Rockland saw a small uptick over the past week before slowly climbing back down in recent days. There has been a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases in Rockland County in comparison to the rest of the mid-Hudson Valley region. In the latest numbers released by the state Health Department, there were 36 new cases out of 1,571 Rockland County residents tested, a 2.3 percent positive infection rate. Rockland County residents have a new tool as the battle against COVID-19 continues after more than six months. The county’s Department of Health added an active case map to its COVID-19 dashboard that will show the active cases that will include the number of confirmed positive results dated within the last two weeks that have been reported. A warning for potential exposure to rabies has been issued by the Rockland County Department of Health. The department is asking anyone in the community who may have any knowledge of a woman and girl who dropped off an 8- to 9-week-old kitten at the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in Pomona on Friday, June 26. This family may have been exposed to rabies and the family may need to seek immediate medical attention, the department said. ID Released For Man Struck, Killed By Vehicle On Palisades Parkway
The identity has been released of a man found dead on the Palisades Interstate Parkway. State Police and the Rockland Sheriff's Office responded on Friday, July 3 at approximately 11:15 p.m. to a report of a body found in the southbound lanes of the parkway near exit 12 in the town of Pomona. An investigation revealed that Genoval Gonzalez Quintana, 47, of Spring Valley, was struck and killed by a vehicle while he walking on the Palisades Parkway, state police said. The body was discovered on the southbound side near Exit 12 in Pomona at around 11 p.m. Friday, July 3.
