Stamford Man Charged With ID Theft, Forgery In Greenwich A Stamford man was charged with ID theft and forgery after attempting to cash fraudulent checks at a Greenwich bank. Giovanni Ortiz, 26, was arrested Monday after police responded to the People's United Bank on Post Road for the report of a man attempting to cash fraudulent checks, said Lt. John Slusarz. Fairfield County Man Admits To Robbing Five Connecticut Banks A Bridgeport man used weapons and murder threats to rob five Connecticut banks over the span of nearly a year, according to the John Durham, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Durham announced this week that Alexander Laister, 25, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty in Hartford federal court to one count of armed bank robbery and admitted that he robbed a total of five banks between November 2016 and June 2017.
