Man Who Led Colombo Family's Long Island Rackets Dies
John “Sonny” Franzese, Sr., a Colombo mob underboss who ran the family's rackets on Long Island, has died.
Franzese, of Roslyn, died on Sunday, Feb. 23 of natural causes in an upstate New York nursing home. He was 103 years old.
Franzese took over the mob family’s operation on Long Island in the 1960s and was renowned for his business interests in Nassau and Suffolk County, including financing the 1972 porn film “Deep Throat,” which reportedly made millions.
In 1967, Franzese was arrested and sentenced to 50 years in prison for bank robbery, though he was paroled in 1978.

Wanted Man Caught As Cops Investigate Shots Fired In Area
A 23-year-old man was arrested after police responded to a report of gunfire in the area.
Christopher Barbot, of Ulster County, was arrested in Orange County by the City of Newburgh Police around 12:39 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, after officers responded to William Street for a report of shots fired, said Det. Sgt. Joseph Rutigliano.
According to Rutigliano, when officers arrived on the scene, they didn't find a victim; however, with the help of the state police, they were able to locate six spent shell casing with two vehicles that sustained damage from gunfire.

Teen On Parole Nabbed With Gun In Area, Police Say
An 18-year-old Orange County teen was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon after running from police when they attempted to speak with him.
Savion L. Knight, of Newburgh, was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 2, when the City of Newburgh Police noticed a group of men standing on the corner of South Lander and Overlook Place, said Newburgh Police Det. Sgt. Joseph Rutigliano.
When police approached, Knight began walking away while holding his waistband and as officers attempted to speak with him he fled on foot, Rutigliano said.
