The top prosecutor overseeing Stamford and Norwalk will step down, marking a major shift for local courts and law enforcement.
State’s Attorney Paul J. Ferencek announced he will retire at the end of his term on June 30, 2026.
Ferencek has led the Stamford/Norwalk Judicial District since 2020. The district covers Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport, and Wilton. As State’s Attorney, he oversees prosecutors handling criminal cases and shares oversight of juvenile matters.

Police say a Hamden man is behind one of Norwalk’s largest storage burglaries.
Tylon Gardner, 35, of Hamden, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 10, after a yearlong investigation into a break-in at Cubesmart on Bouton Street in Norwalk.
Authorities said 89 storage units were entered, and among the stolen items were firearms.
